Our Precision Engineering department currently uses DelCam PowerShape, PowerMill and PartMaker for the design of intricate and complex components for medical, automotive and aero-motive industries. Penybryn Engineering undertakes a range of toolmaking including vacuum forming and injection tools. The company can manufacture a tool from your design, or offer a service to alter or repair an existing tool.

The department is able to provide programming, machining and finishing services to your requirements. These requirements can be specified through discussions, drawings or reversed engineered using our Co-ordinate Measuring Machine.

Additional requirements such as powder coating, heat treatment etc can be arranged by us through one of our established and trusted suppliers.

Vertical Machining Centres

The Department runs a variety of vertical machining centres the largest of which is a HAAS VF6 able to machine components up to 1600 x 800 x 800mm. We have the capability of undertaking 4- axis simultaneous machining with our HAAS HRT 210 4th axis system.

Wire Erosion

Wire erosion is conducted using an Agie 200 series 4 axis CNC wire erosion machine with a capacity of 800mm x 800mm x 250mm +/- 30° taper angle (actual cutting area 400mm x 300mm x 250mm).

Spark Erosion

Spark erosion is available with our Koton Edm KT 202, which has the capacity of 400mm x 300mm x 400mm and our Roboform 40 4-axis CNC spark erosion machine (working area 700mm x 400mm x 400mm tank area 1000mm x 400mm x 700mm). Bespoke electrodes can be manufactured in house to suit individual requirements, including fine detail designs.

CNC Turning

Turning is available through a Star SR-20J Swiss-type Lathe which produces precision engineered parts to 0.001mm tolerance (capacity up to 22mm x 2700mm). Also available is a Hitachi Seiki Hitec-Turn 25R CNC lathe (turning capacity of X = 420mm, Z = 650mm plus live milling and sub spindle).
Software package DelCam Partmaker.

Manual Turning

Bespoke turning is available upon request; up to 950mm diameter (approx.) at 400mm length (approx.), or up to 760mm diameter (approx.) at 3500mm length (approx.). A great deal of flexibility is available, so discussion at an early stage of any project is encouraged.

Inspection Facilities

The department is able to inspect tools and production parts using a 5-axis Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). The CMM enables us to also reverse engineer existing parts and provide ISO accredited certification of components we produce and of customer’s components.
